Ullas nostalgitripp!

Efter en utmärkt frukost på hotellet gav vi oss iväg till Oberursel där Ulla bodde med sin familj 1,5 år på 70-talet. Vi hittade gamla Camp King som var en amerikansk bas på den tiden. (Detta är en utvikning för Billy och möjligen Karin om hon kommer ihåg.) Vi hittade huset där vi bodde. Nästan allt annat var annorlunda, nya hus och affärer, inget omgärdande staket osv. Spårvagnen såg fräschare ut.

Vi gav oss sedan upp i Taunusbergen för att vandra som vi bestämt. Efter en härlig skogsvandring i sol - trots att meteorologen utlovat regn - åkte vi upp till Feldberg där radarstationen fanns, och fortfarande finns, men nu är den väl tysk.

Utsikten var fantastisk och som bonus lärde vi oss om mätningarna på 1800-talet då man försökte räkna ut hur stor jorden var med hjälp av triangelmätningar på en massa punkter på jorden och en av dom punkterna var på just detta Feldberg, som ingick i den mellaneuropeiska mätningen.

Efter ett äpple till lunch (frukosten var enorm!) återvände vi till Bad Homburg och utforskade slottsparken och gamla stan. Helt utmattade efter 15 km vandrande förbereder vi oss nu för morgondagens resa till Normandie. Vi räknar med 10-12 timmars resa. Vi tror inte att vi har tillgång till Internet när vi är där så möjligen dröjer det en vecka innan ni hör av oss igen.

Ulla's nostalgic trip!

After a splendid breakfeast at the hotel we left for Oberursel were Ulla and family lived 1,5 year during the 70's. We found the old Camp King. (This is an aside for Billy and maybe Karin if she remembers) We fond the house where we used to live. Almost everything else was different, new houses and a lot of stores, no fence, no military headquarters and so on. The trolly looked new and fresh.

Then we went up into the Taunus mountins to walk as we had decided. After a nice walk in the forrest in sunshine - although the weatherman had said we would have rain - we went up to Feldberg where the radar station was and still is, but now we guess it belongs to the Germans.
The view was fantastic and as an added bonus we learned about the 19:th century measurments of the size of the earth with help of trigonometric measurments of which apparently Feldberg was one point.
After an apple for lunch (the breakfast was enormous!) we went back to Bad Homburg and discovered the palace garden and the old town of Bad Homburg. Exhausted after a 9 mile walk we are now preparing for tomorrows trip to Normandy. We figure the trip will take 10-12 hours, We don't think we will have Internet while we arre there so it will possibly be a week before you hear from us again.
